Welcome Back!

I can't believe that I am actually going to get out some news from the Attitude camp.  It's been a very busy 18 months, with many events and a good number of kilometers clocked up on both our cars!  So apologies that our first news updates (way back in 2009!) were short lived, but we promise to make more time for Attitude News in 2011.

So what have we been up to?

Paul from TOLRA MicroSystems/Atlantic Hosting & I were discussing how truly mobile you could make your home office.  So we decided to combine a holiday with our businesses.  Can you imagine operating a web hosting business and designing websites inside a tent while paddocks filled up with mud from 71 days of rain?  Well that we did!  In the 3 months we travelled & camped from the bottom of the UK to the top, Paul successfully ran his business, answered 24hr support calls, and we built 4 websites!  The only thing that held us up was the speed of the UK mobile network, pretty slow to say the least & coverage was poor with Vodafone & Three.

We crossed a LOT of hurdles in that first trip.  So it seemed logical to try it again.  But this time it was going to be in Australia!

So 4 months later off we went in our new tent & with new nifty toys that made our mobile office operational.  This time we decided to be a little more geeky & took my Dell 17" laptop to use as as a media center.  Apart from allowing us to edit & catalogue photos better, we also used it as a music center and TV for watching movies at night.  Things got a little more challenging this time, as an overzelaous sales rep from our web host decided to try new software on ours & our clients email.  Quick action prevented everyone on my servers from being affected, which also shows circumstance wasn't a barrier to good support.  During this trip Paul migrated a few websites to hosting on his servers, we also put in substantial time on a complete new site design for 2 sites.

But just to make things more intesting.... Cindy also ran her household from on the road, which included grocery delivery, bill paying, house cleaning, TV channel recording to purchasing train credits for her family to get to work.

With exception to those clients we advised, most clients weren't aware we were away from our offices.  No clients were left waiting.  No clients incurred additional costs contacting us.

During this time Paul enjoyed being in Australia.  We discussed & researched the possibility of opening an Internet Lounge.  We weren't impressed with the response we got off land agents, and looking for somewhere was taking up a lot of time.  We decided that as Paul had done contract work for Attitude for over 8 years, that maybe it was time for him to become part of Attitude.  He's come over here for a year to lend me a helping hand in the new setup, while he pursues avenues for relocating to over here.

Paul & I hope that our Australian clients all enjoy a happy & safe Australia Day after a devastating time with the recent floods, and our International clients the best for the new year ahead!  We look forward to serving you in a prosperous 2011!

Cheers!!!

A little bird told me.... Twitter

If you don't already know, and you will be reading in future issues.... blogging is a great way to promote your business. It can be used instead of/or compliment newsletters, or you can use it to do product reviews, or as a source of information to your target audience on business or personal activities.

But what if you don't know what to write? What if you don't have time to write? What if the whole process of writing turns you off?

That's where Twitter comes in!

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service, enabling its users to send and read messages called tweets of up to 140 characters displayed on the user's profile page. Even though tweets are publicly visible by default, senders can restrict message delivery to their friends list.

Following someone is when users may subscribe to other users' tweets and followers are subscribers to your tweets. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, or by compatible 3rd party applications, or by SMS in certain countries (may incur phone fees).

So how can Twitter help my business?
